A 21-year-old man believed to have been involved in an accident that killed a skateboarder in Springfield on Sunday morning has been arrested, according to Springfield police.
Police responded to a 911 call at 1:49 a.m. Sunday for a collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian in the 3000 block of Main Street, police said.
Police said the vehicle was traveling west on Main Street. The skateboarder was heading west in the bike lane, police said.
An officer pulled over a dark-colored sedan matching the description of the fleeing vehicle and arrested the man, police said. They said that speed and alcohol seemed to affect the accident.
Police have not identified the deceased. Westbound Main Street was closed for more than four hours after the accident.
