Controlling Maximal Voluntary Contraction of the Upper Limb Muscles by Facial Electrical Stimulation

Teeth clenching induces higher maximal voluntary contraction of the limb muscles. Thus, we apply facial electrical stimulation
to control contraction of the masseter muscles. A combined stimulation of the masseter muscles
and the lips induces involuntary teeth clenching. Electrical lip stimulation interferes with
the voluntary contraction of the masseter muscles.
