Crossfit Therapy

SERVICEMEMBERS WHO DEAL
WITH PTSD AND OTHER SICKNESS ISSUES CAN
PARTICIPATE IN DIFFERENT CLASSES AT NAVAL
MEDICAL FACILITIES, ONE EXAMPLE IS
ADAPTIVE CROSSFIT. TODAY WE ARE AT THE FATHOM
ADAPTED STRENGTH TRAINING CLINIC AT FATHOM CROSSFIT. IT’S ONE OF THE CLINICS
THAT WE OFFER TO OUR RECOVERING SERVICEMEMBERS
IN HEALTH AND WELLNESS. THIS CLINIC FOCUSES
NOT ONLY ON ADAPTED PROGRAMMING, SO IF SOMEONE
HAS AN ORTHOPEDIC INJURY, SOMETHING THAT’S
PREVENTING THEM FROM DOING TYPICAL CROSSFIT
PROGRAMMING, THEY’RE ABLE TO LEARN
MODIFICATIONS AND ADAPTATIONS ON HOW
TO DO THE PROGRAM. THIS CLASS CREATES A
POSITIVE ENVIRONMENT FOR THE PATIENTS. WE COME TO A GYM THAT’S
OFF BASE WHICH CAN BE KIND OF CHALLENGING FOR SOME OF
THE PATIENTS THAT WE WORK WITH. THEY’RE STRUGGLING WITH
PTSD, ANXIETY, DEPRESSION, AND HOPEFULLY WE’RE
FOSTERING A SAFE, POSITIVE ENVIRONMENT FOR
THEM TO START WORKING ON SOME OF THE THINGS
THEY STRUGGLE WITH. REPORTING FROM THE NAVAL
MEDICAL CENTER SAN DIEGO, I’M PETTY OFFICER
STEPHEN HALE.
