basketball at its core is just a game you win or you lose but over the weekend basketball was used to collect donations in what Hill a man’s fight to walk on February 16th Jack Roscoe was snowboarding about to take a jump he had done dozens of times successfully but something went wrong during the jump on February 16th and he crashed Roscoe broke his fourth cervical vertebra paralyzing all four of his limbs he is currently receiving treatment in Utah where he’s currently fighting to walk again according to Jack’s mother the support that the treasure state has provided to Jack has been plentiful and blown away doctors the University of Utah hospital making her brown but it wasn’t just Carroll College that came out in support of Jack it was nearly the entire Frontier Conference representatives from nearly every school in the conference came out for the third annual hoops for a Cause to teach kids about basketball all while raising funds to donate to Jack’s recovery efforts Carole college women’s head coach Rochelle sayers says that this event highlights how each frontier conference school is not only supportive of one another but also the communities surrounding them we just play a game in the big scheme of things there’s so many more important things than us competing every Thursday and Saturday night against each other so it’s nice when they can come together work together for the common good and realize that we have a lot to give and it is important that we use that power that we have to help others and to be an influence in the community Haley Crawford a guard at Montana Tech knew Jack before Saturday they grew up together in Helena and she said that Saturday’s camp was an incredible showing of support for one of her friends I think it’s always good just to get together and support the community that supported you and I think it’s really cool that all of the schools can come together because ultimately like we are kind of enemies on the court but we can come together to do some really cool things I grew up with Jack so this is kind of a special thing for me to be able to be here and I was when I was talking to Montana State northern women’s head coach Chris mowett he said across the first two years the hoops for a Cause ran both in Butte and in Great Falls the event raised about $12,000 in total and on Saturday they were on pace to meet or eclipsed that mark in just one day
