Physical Activity While Pregnant — (BENEFITS & ADVICE)

– Hey, I’m Dr. Gregg with
Align Wellness Center. I wanted to share with you a tip that’s something you can do at home if you’ve been having some difficulties during your pregnancy
with lower back pain, headaches, migraines, or sciatica. This is a really important activity to wind up doing and that is
actually just to keep active. According to the Mayo
Clinic, they find that that’s one of the number one
recommendations they make for at home things to do to
help with these problems. The reason that that’s so important is that activity winds up firing off the receptors in the bottom of your feet. These receptors wind up going faster to your brain than pain. You may remember when you were a child and you had a booboo. Your mom might have rubbed on the booboo and you didn’t feel the booboo anymore. Well, those same mechanisms
can wind up working to override lower back pain,
headaches, and neck pain. You just need to wind up doing it. Another reason that I
find during pregnancy, physical activity is a really
important thing to maintain is that when the finale, the grand finale, of being pregnant is
labor and labor typically, I equate to a six to
eight hour CrossFit class or Orangetheory class, whichever
one might be your pick. It’s really intense and it’s a long time. If you haven’t been active
for a long time before that, maybe it winds up being
three or six months, well that workout’s going to
be extremely stressful and strenuous and it may
require other interventions. Now, when problems become really advanced it’s important to get professional help. So, if you wind up having
lower back pain, neck pain, headaches, migraines, it
may be a really good idea, and it actually is just a
good idea to have it checked by someone who specializes
in managing those areas. Like a chiropractor. We work with a lot of
pregnant women, moms-to-be and help them get through the process as safe and as easily as they can. If you or someone you know is pregnant, please share this video with them. This may help them get through easier. If you like it, give it a thumbs up. Once again, I’m Dr. Gregg Gerstin with Align Wellness Center. Thank you for letting me
be a part of your health. (upbeat music)
