STATE OFFICIALS WANT EVERYONE TO STAY HOME TODAY. COLD TEMPERATURES OVER NIGHT… HAVE MADE ROADS DANGEROUS. TWO RETIRED RACE HORSES ARE IN A NEW BARN THIS MORNING AFTER A FIRE DESTROYED THEIR OLD ONE IN GEORGETOWN. GOOD MORNING. I’M SEAN MOODY. AND I’M MICHELE GOOD MORNING. I’M SEAN MOODY. As the skies cleared overnight, the snow on the ground acts like an ice cube in a glass of water…it makes things even colder. Some southern Kentucky spots are waking up to temperatures below zero. COLDER TEMPERATURES COMING IN… COULD MEAN BIG PROBLEMS FOR DRIVERS… AS MANY ROADS HAVE RE-FROZEN. STATE LEADER ARE ASKING YOU TO STAY OFF THE ROADS AGAIN THIS MORNING. OVERNIGHT… TEMPERATURES DROPPED TO THE SINGLE DIGITS CAUSING MANY ROADS ACROSS THE STATE TO FREEZE OVER, ALSO CREATING MANY AREAS OF BLACK ICE. THIS IS WHY STATE OFFICIALS ARE ASKING EVERYONE TO STAY HOME TODAY IF POSSIBLE. THEY SAY STAYING OFF OF THE ROADWAYS WILL HELP CREWSCLEAR THE ROADS AT A FASTER PACE. RYAN WATT IS THE SPOKESPERSON FOR THE KENTUCKY TRANSPORTATION. WATT SAYS ALL OF THE PLOWED SNOW THAT TURNED INTO SLUSH… WOULD LIKELY RE-FREEZE. WATT SAYS CHEMICALS THE CHEMICAL USED TO TREAT THE ROADS ARE INEFFECTIVE ONCE THE TEMPERATURES ARE NEAR ZERO. ” We caution our motorists to watch out for black ice and basically if you cant see it you may risk the hazard of going out and crashing.” THE SPOTS THAT ARE AT HIGHEST RISK FOR BLACK ICE ARE BRIDGES AND OVERPASSES. OFFICIALS SAY IF YOU DRIVE THE ROADS WHEN IT’S NOT NECESSARY… YOU’RE CREATING A POTENTIAL DANGER FOR YOURSELF… AND FOR OTHERS. NOW SNOW AND ICE CREWS ARE WORKING AROUND THE CLOCK UNTIL ALL OF THE ROADS ARE BACK TO NORMAL. IN THE MEANTIME, IF YOU DO GET BEHIND THE WHEEL, TAKE IT SLOW AND USE CAUTION.
